Introduction!

Hello and welcome to the site ‘Under My Umbrella.’ So it seems this is my first blog post. As I have mentioned in the ‘About’ section of the site that this will be where different topics relating to disabilities will be discussed. Subjects will vary, and many will hopefully cover a variety of different areas of topics and subjects.

Not everything on the site will be related to experiences, most of or some of it will be based on thoughts and opinions about certain things that have been brought to attention through media and things. While other things might be thoughts and rambles from my own experiences, as someone with a disability or two. As I was born with congenital rubella syndrome, which is an umbrella of multiple disabilities and defects caused by the rubiverus in vitro (in the womb). You can read more about that in the ‘What is rubella Syndrome?’ section on the menu page. I have a mild form of it, which again I have explained in the ‘About me,’ section of the menu. But in short I am partially sighted/visually impaired, whichever suits you fine, and have a hole in the heart, alongside a bit of low muscle tone. I think I am lucky compared to most. Although I do wonder what other gems my body is hiding. Believe me it’s hiding a lot, they always find something new.

Anyway enough about me, coming back to the site and it’s content as I say there will be a variety of different topics covered. I already have ideas for some topics, so I thought I’d give you an idea of sorts to a list of some of the things I might discuss. These might include;

  • The anti vaxx movement
  • Disability in the entertainment industry
  • Disabled characters being portrayed in books
  • Disability and diversity
  • Abortion and disability, (the use of disability when campaigning for abortion
  • You don’t look/sound disabled, passing off as normal
  • Anxiety and private professionals, or it being made to seem like it’s easy to cure etc

Those are just some of the subjects that might be discussed, not necessarily in that order, and not necessarily all those things. That’s just to give you some ideas of what topics ‘could,’ be spoken about. I don’t really know yet how things will go, these as I say are ideas that are possibilities and floating around my head. But we shall see.

Lastly I am fully aware that not everyone will agree with what I have to say. Most people don’t agree with my thoughts and ideas, and not everyone likes what I have to say. I’ve had plenty of people disagree with me in the past, but these are my thoughts and feelings on these subjects. There is no way that I am speaking on behalf of, or for everyone with a disability. I have learned over the past few years that even in the disabled community there are disagreements and arguments over certain things. We are all different and have different opinions and thoughts. Therefore the stuff on here are my opinions and how I feel about certain things. I’d like to hear from people who have similar thoughts and opinions too of course. And I am one of those people who’s mind can be changed with reasonable and good alternatives to my own thoughts, if that makes sense. I don’t really know how to explain that, but basically I can see different points of views, unless I feel strongly about my own views. Then I can be very stubborn. Anyway I have rambled on a little too much. I hope this has peaked your interest a little, and you will come back and visit the site, when I have posted the next post, and enjoy the contents of this site.

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to read my blog. If you have gotten this far, I applaud you. Thanks again.
